Dreamtime Coach

Dreamtime Journey Coach

Unique Indigenous Art Gallery

An Indigenous inmate from the Westbrook Correctional Centre volunteered to paint one of our carriages as a way of acknowledging the contributions made by the Indigenous rail workers on the construction of the railway up the range. Inmate, 'Domi', undertook this task as part of his prison rehabilitation program. He commenced painting the carriage in 2012, it took 19 weeks to produce his awe-inspiring, unique Indigenous Art Gallery on wheels (static exhibit).

The coach depicts the Aboriginal theme based on 'Baiami' who created the earth and all the wonderful landscape, mountains, lakes, rivers, billabongs, oceans and islands.

Our 'Dreamtime Journey Coach' experience is taking a dawn to dusk spiritual journey. Domi's painting represents the traverse of a day, the entrance starting with the orange and yellow colours of dawn, then to the middle of the carriage experiencing the bright colours of the day, to the end of the carriage reflecting the end of day colours of pink and purple at dusk.

In order to preserve the integrity of the artwork, DownsSteam has erected a large shadecloth over the carriage and installed two air-conditioning units to manage humidity and temperature changes.

To commemorate your visit, you are able to purchase a selection of 'Dreamtime' carriage prints and postcards from our station shop.
